Oh No, Bear! By Joanne Partis

With themes of Autumn, Harvest, Friendship and Empathy, Oh No, Bear! is a charming book for young children.

One morning, Bear wakes up very hungry. As he makes his way around the forest, visiting his friends, he eats far more than he ever intended. He worries that he’s made his friends angry but he just can’t help himself. Returning home, he has a bit of a Winnie the Pooh moment and gets stuck in his doorway. It’s up to his caring friends to help him out and reassure him that his actions are ok. Their empathy and kindness demonstrate that true friends will always be there no matter what. They know that Bear doesn’t mean to be greedy but that his behaviour is just part of getting ready to hibernate.

The charming characters and friendly illustrations will draw children into this lovely story. There is so much to look at with all the little creatures and fantastic details. My daughter would have loved this when she was tiny. I can just imagine her wide eyes and repetition of the “Oh No” refrain and other sound effects. She would have ridden the roller coaster of emotions with Bear and been so pleased when he was sorted out at the end. I can’t wait to share this book with more little people!
