The reader is in charge in this second ‘choose your own adventure’ style book by Helen Rutter. Young people aged 8+ will love selecting challenges and making key decisions as the characters hurtle from one adventure to another.
Tig has been sent to Game Camp where teamwork, mental and physical agility and endurance are essential. Campers must face challenges head on with perseverance, resilience and confidence. The trouble is, Tig isn’t really bothered about going to Game Camp. Mum completed the application without Tig knowing and is now super emotional and proud about this ‘big step into the outside world’. Tig just needs some time away from Mum and all her emotions to work out who they are and the person they want to become. With team names like Unity, Connect, Harmony and Belief, there’s clearly much more to this camp than just the challenges. Campers learn about themselves and their teammates – whether they like it or not.
Split into 8 possible scenarios, The Game Changers is a really manageable reading length. There’s great satisfaction to be found in completing an adventure and then diving back into the story to see what happens if you choose to go another way. This book will have young people reading page after page without them really realising it. This is sure to be an incredibly popular choice for Year 4 onwards.
