Book Review, Chapter Book

Sidney and Carrie Have a Party by Lisa Thompson & illustrated by Jess Rose

Little Gems books from Barrington Stoke are perfect for children in Reception and Key Stage One who are ready to add some variety to their reading diet. Pitched between picture books and chapter books, these early readers give children the feeling of an older book with accessible vocabulary and spacing to help them on their way. Brightly coloured illustrations add to the appeal.

Sidney and Carrie are back in another lovely story about growing up and having fun. Everything is exciting because they’re planning a joint birthday party at the village hall. There are invitations, entertainment and food to plan. Unfortunately, Sidney and Carrie don’t always see eye to eye. Maybe this party isn’t going to work out the way they thought. Then their teacher helps them learn to work together and they realise they will be able to plan the best birthday party ever after all.

Thank you to Barrington Stoke for a copy of this brilliant book for young readers!
