By the Sea: Life Along the Coast by Judith Homoki & Martin Haake ~ Blog Tour

National Non-Fiction November

National Non-Fiction November is the Federation of Children’s Book Groups’ annual celebration of all things factual. Born out of National Non-Fiction Day, the brain child of Adam Lancaster during his years as Chair, the whole month now celebrates all those readers that have a passion for information and facts and attempts to bring non-fiction celebration in line with those of fiction.

The theme this year is ‘Wonderful Water’. The NNFN competition has been inspired by ‘Sea Change: Save the Ocean’, edited by Tobias Hickey.

I’m excited to be a part of a Bloggers’ Tour celebrating ‘Wonderful Water’ with By the Sea: Life Along the Coast by Judith Homoki & Martin Haake!

This gorgeous book takes readers on a trip around the world’s oceans. The incredibly detailed double-page spreads examine coastal habitats, life in a coastal settlement, beautiful seashores, native animals, coastal plants, the whaling industry, tourism and climate change. Maps are combined with historic events and fascinating facts to give readers a full picture of the world’s oceans.

The significance of water is shared from a truly global perspective. Cultural traditions, immigration, business, the impact of climate change and a range of countries shows the importance of water in our lives. We are all linked by this life force and rely on it to survive. By the Sea: Life Along the Coast fosters respect for the oceans and everyone who feels connected to them in some way.

This is a book to spend time with. The vibrant illustrations are so intriquing and prompt the reader to look deeper. Manageable sections of text along with bite-sized labels encourage further reading. Children will enjoy reading this book together and pointing out new things they learn.

Thank you to Prestel Pubilshing & the Federation of Children’s Book Groups for inviting me to take part in the blog tour!
