Mike Barfield & Jess Bradley are back with another fantastic non-fiction graphic novel style book packed full of information that children will love. Following the huge success of Blue Peter Book Award winner, A Day in the Life of a Poo, a Gnu and You, A Day in the Life of a Caveman, a Queen and Everything in Between shows children history as they’ve never seen it before.
This fun and ever so engaging book allows children to travel through history with fascinating facts told from the most unusual perspectives. What does Katherine Johnson’s stick of chalk have to say about her incredible calculations? What does a camel think about its time on the Silk-Road? Explore civilisations, inventions, important animals, art, jobs, famous people and all of the issues that shape the human experience.
With four types of pages that are packed full of facts, readers are able to take a closer look. “A Day in the Life of a …” gives a unique point of view while “The Secret Diary of a …” goes into more detail. “Newsflash” gives facts about a specific time period and “The Bigger Picture” zooms in on one aspect of history.
My son particularly loves all the cats who shaped history. The Secret Diary of an Egyptian Cat gives a feline point of view (and shows just why they were considered so special) and A Day in the Life of a Ship’s Cat shows who’s really in charge. But his absolute favourite thing in the entire book is his discovery that Isaac Newton was a cat-man just like him. Isaac Newton is my children’s first cousin 11 times removed (first cousin to their 9x Great Grandfather). Hearing about his work from the point of view of a cat brought my son so much joy!
This is a must-have for every classroom and will be on my Christmas shopping list for lots of children this year!
Thank you to Buster Books for this fun and fascinating book!
