Book Review, Early Reader

Rocket Boy by Katie Jennings & illustrated by Joe Lillington

Rocket Boy shows just how much children can achieve when left alone with their imagination and a very big cardboard box! Like a slightly more grown-up “Whatever Next” by Jill Murphy, Rocket Boy is an exciting space adventure with a trusty sidekick.

Callum is an absolute gold-mine of facts about the universe. He is always asking questions and telling his mum fascinating facts. The only trouble is he and his ginger cat, Oscar, keep getting under Mum’s feet. She sends them upstairs with the box from her new desk and his creativity starts to flow. Soon Callum has the best rocket ship ever and is ready to blast off to the moon!

This book is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn more about space. With detailed, interesting facts about the moon, Mars and everything in between, it is the perfect book for young readers who love the idea of being an astronaut and making new discoveries. The bright colours, varied layout and exciting illustrations make this story extra appealing.
