Gruff Justice by Ross Montgomery & Marisa Morea

Gruff Justice is Ross Montgomery’s third brilliantly bonkers story playing on a well-known traditional tale. The Three Billy Goats Gruff takes on a whole new meaning in this charming who-dunnit.

Someone has taken a bite out of the birthday cake and the famer is fuming! Of couse he blames Big Goat Gruff who has a reputation for eating absolutely everything. Gruff needs to prove his innocence by finding out who really ate the cake!

Gruff and Billie become goat detectives (with all the gear they need) and set out to interview the other animals. One by one, they eliminate suspects. Everyone has an alibi. Will they discover the truth or is Gruff destined to be turned into goat pie?

Gruff Justice could be used as a class read as a part of a traditional tales unit in Key Stage 1 or to inspire alternative tales up to about Year 4/5. It is absolutely perfect for Year 1 children who are familiar with the original stories. They’ll enjoy spotting the adaptations and the hilarious goat investigation.

Barrington Stoke Little Gems are aimed at readers age 5+ who are ready to make the step to slightly longer stories combining chapters and fantastic illustrations.
