Diamond Jack is an absolutely delightful, swashbuckling adventure. Full of the charm of time gone by, it takes readers on a high-stakes, perilous quest overrun with dastardly highwayman, carriages bursting with riches and an unexplainable magic.
Bramble’s parents died in a tragic riding accident leaving her and her big sister, Lena, to live with their grandfather in his emporium. To make things even harder for them all, the throne has been stolen from Queen Gerogina by her sister, the Princess Regent Lavinia. Anyone who disagrees with Princess Lavinia simply disappears.
One of the brightest spots in the story is Bramble’s best friend, Ernest. He loves stories of highwaymen and his hero is the legendary “Diamond Jack”. When Bramble discovers a magical highwayman mask in her grandfather’s shed, Ernest is ready to join her wherever the adventure leads. He knows everything there is to know about these notorious gangs of villains, filling in all the gaps for Bramble along the way.
There are so many layers of detail in this wonderfully magical story. Bramble and Ernest discover more secrets than they ever thought possible, unravelling their family history and the truth about what it takes to become the ultimate highwayman.
