Greenwild: The World Behind The Door by Pari Thomson ~ Blog Tour Part 2

I’m thrilled to be back on the Greenwild blog tour with a bonus guest post from author Pari Thomson! It’s publication week and books are starting to appear in bookshops around the country. I spotted Greenwild in the window of The Whitby Bookshop.

Read on to discover Pari’s life as a writer:

My writing routine: where and when I write by Pari Thomson

By day, I work in publishing, where I’m the Editorial Director for picture books at Bloomsbury. This means that I get to make beautiful, illustrated books, and spend lots of time talking to authors and illustrators, editing texts and looking at wonderful artwork.

By night, I’m an author myself. This means that I usually don’t start writing until after it gets dark. Once I’ve finished dinner, I make a cup of tea, break off a square of dark chocolate, and I sit down on my dangerously comfortable sofa to start writing. I write with my laptop on my lap, and I keep going pretty much until I fall asleep. Then I get up and do it all over again the next day.

My sofa is surrounded by books, so the hardest thing is not to get distracted by all the things I want to read!

Every morning before work, I like to go for a long walk in the park near where I live. That’s where I think about what I’m going to write next, or figure out tricky plot problems, or come up with new ideas – and then I hold them in the back of mind until it’s time for that evening’s writing session. The two jobs fit together like puzzle pieces, I think, because writing can be solitary, while publishing is sociable and collaborative. But both of them are – first and foremost – about telling great stories.
