Secrets Set in Stone is third book in the fantastic Tales of Truth and Treasure series by James Haddell. When I finished book two, The Forgotten Crown, I wanted to read more right away. It was hard to wait, but I got to enjoy the feeling of aniticipation that comes with counting down to the next book in a beloved series. Now James has done it to me again. As soon as I finished Secrets Set in Stone, I wanted to find out more about Tia’s quest. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before book four appears.
“There’s a magic at work here. These stones hold secrets. Something is being concealed from me, but there’s always a way to reveal what’s been hidden.”
This next adventure takes us back to Stormhaven. Tia, Pasco and Meghan are trying to decipher the meaning of their latest clue – “Stone Oak Circle”. As they search for Merlin and the Seven Hallows of Arthur, they face almost impossible challenges, mind-bending puzzles and incredible danger. Further troubles are added to this when they learn of a scheme to turn their one of a kind school into a hotel. There’s too much at stake for them to leave any stone unturned.
As we find out more about Meghan’s birth history, the theme of family and acceptance grows. This is a story of all the ups and downs of being a family framed with love and hope. It is these relationships that make this series so special. The celebration of family brought together through adoption is at the forefront throughout and shows how genuine care and respect draws people together.
The sense of history in this story is incredibly strong. There is so much detail in the underlying legends of King Arthur and Merlin. Magical fantasy combines with an engaging historical mystery to keep readers guessing right to the end of the book. With a bit of a Goonies adventure through smugglers’ tunnels laced with booby traps, there’s no telling what’s going to happen next.
