Book Review, Early Reader

Big Sky Mountain: The Forest Wolves by Alex Milway

Big Sky Mountain: The Forest Wolves is the fun-filled second book in this early reader series for age 5+ from Alex Milway.

Rosa and Grandma Nan live in the forest with all sorts of talkative woodland creatures. From Albert the Moose to Higgs the helpful hedgehog to a herd of humongous bison, there’s no shortage of friends to help when there’s trouble.

The pair are busy building an extension on their cabin when a storm hits. Their animal neighbours join them to take shelter but there’s someone new – a tiny wolf cub. So different from the scary, giant-fanged wolves who live amongst the trees, they can’t believe this little one could ever be so frightening. Rosa and her grandma decide to help the little wolf and set off on a quest to find her family.

Along the way, they realise that you can’t judge a book by its cover, or a wolf by its fangs. Actually, the wolves aren’t so big and bad after all. Lessons about working together and taking time to help others fill this fun story with an important message.
