Just Like You by Jo Loring-Fisher

Just Like You is an incredibly beautiful picture book that builds empathy in its readers and celebrates the features we all share. It is narrated by an ordinary little girl who is just like all children everywhere. She is exploring her identity. I can just imagine her playing “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” with so many other little ones at playgroup or nursery. She has the same emotions, the same interests, the same desires to love and be loved – “Just Like You”. In the end, it is revealed that there is one big difference. This little girl is a refugee.

The touching illustrations depict a little girl who is full of life. She loves to run and play. She loves her family and feels safe when she is with them. Gradually, readers come to understand the unspoken reality of the situation but also see a little girl full of hopes and dreams.

Thank you to Otter-Barry Books for this beautiful book!
