Book Review, Non-fiction Books

The Journey: Nature’s Greatest Adventure by Jonny Marx & illustrated by Hanako Clulow

The Journey is an amazing, rhyming non-fiction book about the annual great migration across the African plains. Led by majestic zebras, each animal is described as they undertake this challenging quest. The adaptations of the animals and the symbiotic relationships between them are key to their survival. All of this is described in straight-forward, engaging details that even the youngest learners will be able to understand. Specific vocabulary provides opportunity for discussion and development of concepts and language (e.g. parched, arid, tracks, quench, skulks). A labelled picture of each animal ensures children are able to name each creature correctly. It is wonderful to see such a trend in beautifully written and illustrated non-fiction books! This book and so many others from Little Tiger Press will we welcomed into school, class and home libraries.
