Book Review, Middle Grade Fiction

Scarlet & Ivy by Sophie Cleverly

My twelve-year-old daughter is currently completely immersed in the Scarlet & Ivy series by Sophie Cleverly. Recommended by a like-minded friend, she is thoroughly enjoying these stories and is reading faster than she ever has before – she can’t get enough!

Recently, someone asked if I had a review of the series. I didn’t so I asked Charlie what she would say. Here is her quick review:

“They are an intriguing mystery series of six books. The main characters are twin sisters, Scarlet & Ivy, with their best friend Ariadne. They are quite fast-paced so they are quite engaging. There are some difficult words but you can work out what they mean easily. Whenever I finish one, I need to read the next one right away. I need to know what happens next! I’m really visual and can imagine what I’m reading so I really like the description in these books. The stories are quite exciting but sometimes they make me nervous for the characters. These are different to your usual boarding school stories – they are mysterious and adventurous – not quite like Enid Blyton! I really recommend them – one of the best series I’ve read!” (Charlie, 12)
