Cinnamon Crumb, Baking Detective: The Great Cake Caper by Harry Woodgate

September 2026

Deliciously delightful and absolutely engaging, Cinnamon Crumb, Baking Detective: The Great Cake Caper is the first book in a wonderful new illustrated series for readers age 8+. Harry Woodgate has created a scrumptious world for readers to get lost in with a brilliant heroine bursting with personality. Addressing the audience directly, Cinnamon Crumb brings her readers right into the story to help her solve a very sweet mystery. This is a joyful book which will captivate readers from Year 3 upwards as a class read aloud or something to giggle and gasp to as an independent read.

The town of Marzipan is full of talented bakers. Unfortunately, Cinnamon isn’t one of them. Failing to follow in her family’s footsteps, she feels like she’s letting everyone down. She longs to find something she’s good at. The Great Cake Carnival is approaching and everyone is getting ready for the food-filled events. The coveted prize of the Twelve Tier Crown is up for grabs. Only two bakeries have ever won and they’re desperate to win again – so much so that they both recruit Cinnamon to spy on the other team. Suddenly, she’s a double agent. Does she have what it takes or will she find herself in a very sticky situation?

Cinnamon and her best friend Rafi follow the trail of a series of mysterious events. Threatening notes, sabotage and hooded figures raise more questions than answers. Along the way, Cinnamon uncovers family secrets and realises it’s ok to take her own path.

This is a fantastic, light-hearted mystery which will carry readers chapter to chapter. I can’t wait to see what Crumb Investigations Agency gets up to next. The Royal Biscuit Burglary is due to be published in June 2027.
