Murder at the Ivy Hotel by Emily Hourican

February 2026

Murder at the Ivy Hotel is a hugely engaging, twisty middle grade mystery. I’ve read so many mysteries recently but this one really stands out for its complex characters, distracting red herrings and very real danger.

Meredith and Macy live at the Ivy Hotel in Dublin where their mum is the General Manager and the staff are like family. Everyone’s worried. The new owners are high-flying business people who want to make big changes (which are nowhere near the usual standard of the Ivy). Mum’s job is at risk which means their lives would change drastically. When one of the guests is found dead, everyone’s a suspect. Meredith, Macy and their new friend Colin realise it’s up to the children to take the lead and solve the mystery before the wrong people are framed and lives are ruined.

The Ivy Hotel is almost a character itself in this cosy crime adventure. With an undeniable legacy, the building’s stories are a part of so many people’s lives. Grand rooms, secret stairways and a mysterious floor plan provide the blueprint for a magnificent mystery.
