Isaac Turner Investigates: The Galileo Heist by Sam Sedgman & illustrated by David Dean

The Galileo Heist is the third heart-stopping adventure in the incredible Isaac Turner Investigates series by Sam Sedgman. After racing around London and Paris in the first two books, Isaac and Hattie are transported to Florence for a summer of high-speed chases, mysterious thieves and challenges that will push them to their limits. From the thrilling opening scene to the final moments, readers are left guessing about the identities of the criminals and the fate of our heroes.

Intending to spend the summer with Isaac’s grandfather at his villa in Tuscany, Isaac and Hattie are shocked to find themselves immediately mixed up in a burglary. It seems Isaac’s grandad has been framed for the theft of valuable jewels belonging to Cosimo de Luca. But was he actually framed? It comes to light that Grandad actually has a criminal past and some very suspicious friends. When they learn Cosimo has possession of a very special pendant once belonging to Isaac’s mother, they find themselves planning a heist of their own.

The pendant is part of a collection of antique science equipment that once belonged to Galileo and his students. Precious to Isaac’s mother because it was owned by a female scientist who was an incredibly intelligent student of Gallileo himself, he’s desperate to have it. When they learn the Whitehorne Corporation Trust (who they’ve come up against before) want to buy the collection, Isaac knows he needs to stop them.

Set in the heat of a beautiful Italian summer, the vibrant colours leap off the page, bringing the story to life. Among all the chaos, Isaac and Hattie manage to enjoy all the foods, landmarks and joys of culture that make Italy so special. As the solar eclipse approaches, the power and beauty of nature take centre stage in this junior Oceans 11 adventure.

The Galileo Heist is a master class in double crossing and solving an impossible problem. Through teamwork, friendship and intense moral struggle, Isaac and Hattie learn who they can trust and just how far they’re willing to go to do the right thing. Their Italian holiday isn’t at all what they expect but it’s certainly a summer to remember. The Isaac Turner Investigates series just gets more and more exciting with each instalment. I can’t wait to see where they end up next!
