The Lucky House Detective Agency by Scarlett Li ~ Blog Tour

It’s my stop on the blog tour for the first book in a delightful new mystery series, The Lucky House Detective Agency. Perfect for Year 3 onwards, this fun who-dunnit would be fantastic as a class read aloud to learn about the mystery genre. Full of cases, clues, suspects and evidence, there’s everything children need to understand the componants of a mystery and how to make it really fun! Children will love listening to the story together and trying to work out the solution.

Set in his family’s Chinese takeaway restaurant – Lucky House – Felix and his best friend Isaac are thrilled to find a mystery right on their doorstop! When Mum’s lucky money plant (a beautiful jade plant she brought from Hong Kong) is damaged and they discover a strange coin in the soil, they know they have to work out what’s going on. The cast of characters is completely charming with customers named after the food they usually order. From nosy “Sweet and Sour Granny” to the plant loving “No Peppers”, the takeaway is such an important part of the community.

This story is a celebration of British-Chinese culture. Traditions, beliefs, values, food and family are explained with respect and joy. Felix is proud of his family, even if he has to disobey his parents to crack the case. He soon learns that being a detective can be dangerous and becomes even more difficult when he’s grounded!

For my stop on the blog tour, I’m so pleased to share the first chapter. Take a few minutes to meet Felix and enjoy this fantastic new mystery!
