Ella Jones shows readers anyone can be a hero. Although, at first, she appears to be an ordinary preteen girl who loves lipgloss, fashion and time with her dog, she is so much more. Brave, resilient and incredibly intelligent, she takes charge of a complicated quest across London. Using all her skills, she shows everyone how much she is capable of. With the perfect balance of independence and teamwork, Ella, her sister Poppy & her best friend Finn must defeat an evil villain playing with time, magic and the natural elements.
Having coped with a degenerative eye disease and losing her vision two years before, Ella has had to adapt to life without sight. With her guide dog, Maisie, by her side, she shows readers how important it is to be yourself and discover more about who you really are.
Ella Jones vs the Sun Stealer is a fast-paced mythological mystery. A school trip to the Mythos Library – a museum specialising in ancient gods and their artefacts – reveals the awakening of the Celtic god Lugh. After being trapped in a box for 2000 years, Lugh is out for revenge on the mortals who put him there. Chaos ensues as the world is plunged into total darkness. Spurred on by a man who has everything to gain from the dark, it seems no one can stop this powerful duo. Except Ella…
Writing from personal experience, Lucy Edwards is an incredible own voices author. Ella Jones’ life is authentic, honest and full of joy. Her ability to navigate day-to-day challenges is insightful and empathy-building. I’m not sure Lucy Edwards has experienced battling a Celtic god or hunting down rainbow stones using spells written in Braille but her portrayal of a young blind girl saving the Earth is captivating. This exciting story was written in collaboration with bestselling children’s author Katy Birchall.
