The Great Theatre Rescue by Judith Eagle

The Great Theatre Rescue is a wonderful story of embracing our passions, standing up for what we believe in and finding out exactly where we call ‘home’.

It’s pre-war 1930’s London. Charley loves spending all her time at The Wren Theatre with her dad and the other performers. Every night, she’s spellbound by the The Tumbling Twins, The Skip Sisters and Violet-the-voice-Nightingale. Music and lights fill her soul. More than anything, she loves to dance. She’s thrilled when she finally has the opporutnity to get up on stage wearing her mother’s old tap shoes and show the audience what she can do – until the last minute when fear overwhelms her.

Stagefright isn’t her only problem. When her father is called away to spend time with his dying father and her aunt comes to stay, they discover the theatre is in serious financial trouble. Charley is sent to a boarding school while her aunt tries to sort everything out. However, the school is nothing like its brochure – more like a workhouse or an orphanage. Charley knows she must escape and find her way back to London to save the theatre before it’s too late.

Daring and smart, Charley won’t let anything stand in her way. Even when faced with obstacle after obstacle, she keeps pushing until she finds the answers. She knows her life at The Wren is worth fighting for.

With sumptuously detailed settings and a cast of historically relevant characters, The Great Theatre Rescue is easy to get lost in. Charley’s quick-thinking and bold decisions create a pacey, high-adrenaline adventure that keeps readers guessing at every chapter. The magic of the theatre shines through with the inclusion of real life stars like Duke Ellington. In the end, Charley’s passion and connection to the music compels her to dance and truly shine.
