Yetis Don’t Exist is a charming picture book exploring humans’ quest to find unusual creatures out in the wild. Gentle rhymes and the most delightful illustrations draw young readers into the yetis’ plight as they discover (according to humans) they don’t actually exist! Apparently they’re a hoax and the whole world has been bamboozled into believing they might actually be out there.
The yetis set off on an adventurous quest to find the humans. They hope a friendly chat will show them that yetis do, indeed, exist. There are subtle signs of humans along the way but no actual humans to be seen. In a fun twist, they discover a “dance-like-a-yeti disco”. This is incredibly reassuring as it confirms that yetis do exist – and that humans do not!
Each page of this wonderful read aloud is absolutely gorgeous. Full of personality and fun, children will love looking at the friendly characters and tracking the yetis’ journey. The double page maps are fantastic models for children’s own writing. Classes, groups or individuals will enjoy drawing each stage of a yetis’ journey and labeling it with descriptive language. These maps will also make a great introduction to map skills and a compass rose.
The newspapers, magazines and posters declaring the yetis’ non-existence provide great prompts for all sorts of non-fiction writing. Children will be incredibly motivated to create their own declarations that yetis don’t exist.
A fabulous read in any weather, Yetis Don’t Exist is the only picture book you need for snowy winter days with plenty of opportunities for activities across the curriculum.
