Celebrate Holly Webb’s 60th story in her delightful Animal Stories series with The Bold Kitten.
Hana and her family are embarking on a new life in the UK. Since being forced from their home in a Syrian village two years ago and living in a camp in Iraq, they have dreamed of peace and a home. Their UK host family is welcoming and does all they can to help them feel settled but Hana is nervous about the language barrier and attending a new school. It will take every bit of strength and courage she can muster to start over.
Fortunately, her host family are also fostering a litter of kittens. Hesitant and new, they too have to use all of their courage to find their way in the world. Hana falls in love with a little tortoise shell kitten and is given the privilege of naming it. She chooses “Amal” which means dreams and hope – a perfect reflection of Hana’s new life. Hana draws strength from her kitten and thrives in this new life.
The Bold Kitten is a beautiful story of empathy and hope. Readers will begin to understand the sometimes overwhelming challenges of having to move to a different country and build a new life. Through their understanding of Hana’s family, they will be encouraged to offer kindness and empathy to other refugee children who join their schools.
The gentle relationship between Hana and Amal reveals the healing power of connections with animals. These very special creatures offer love, strength and warmth even when the world seems cold.
