Club Loser is back where it all began – a Saturday detention, Dread Wood and a high-stakes battle with the creepiest couple around.
The woods are full of some really weird caterpillars with gigantic teeth and a taste for meat. Mr Hume, their very suspicious headteacher, downplays the danger but it’s clear something’s not right. Angelo, Colette, Naira, Hallie and the legendary Gus must pull together all their courage and determination to defeat the evil Latchitts once and for all.
The gang find themselves in a terrifying escape room type scenario they definitely didn’t sign up for. This is a walk down memory lane they’d rather avoid. Reprises of skin crawling nursery rhymes and horrifying creatures test their resolve and self-belief. This time, they might not all make it out alive!
The beloved Mr Canton is as funny and completely uncool as ever – but is he really who they think he is? Club Loser’s loyalty is put to the test as they attempt to discover the truth about who they can trust and who is working with the Latchitts.
Terror Tower is a bittersweet read. The final book in the Dread Wood series, spending time with the Club Loser gang is very special. They’ve grown so much over the six books – they’ve learned how to believe in themselves, how to trust in each other and how to be honest about who they are. Their strength of character is a fantastic model for readers who might find themselves on the outside of what is “cool”. They’ll see that real friendship is out there and being true to themselves is always the best way forward.
Dread Wood is such an iconic series. From the delightfully cringeworthy Mr Canton, to Gus’s wonderful, laugh-out-loud sense of humour, to Klaus the well-being pig, there is so much to love about it all. Pop culture references will charm adults and children alike. But beware, readers will never be able to listen to nursery rhymes the same way again.
Thank you to Jennifer Killick and Farshore Books for the opportunity to spend time with this amazing gang over the past two and a half years. I’m going to miss them!
