Wildsmith: The Hidden Sea by Liz Flanagan

Wildsmith by Liz Flanagan is the loveliest series for readers age 7+. Full of adventure and heart, these stories pull readers into the magic and provide characters to look up to. In the third instalment, The Hidden Sea, Rowan finds herself on the run as she tries to find her way back home to her famiy.

Rowan is a Wildsmith which means she is able to communicate with magical creatures. She helps and protects them, making sure they feel safe and loved. This story begins with Rowan returning her pegasus foal, Mouse, to his mother. This is a dangerous journey but Rowan wants to make sure Mouse is cared for every step of the way. When Rowan leaves the herd of pegasi, she finds herself on a ship that is being followed by the enemy – the Estrians. Seas, storms, kidnapping and threats won’t stop Rowan and her new friends from doing the right thing. The magic of a selkie and a dragon prove that kindness to animals – even magical ones – brings things right in the end.

This is a lovely story of friendship, the importance of family and facing your fears. Rowan and her friends step up with bravery and determination to escape the most frightening foes. It’s clear why this series has been so celebrated. Accessible and so engaging, they are heart-felt, exciting stories that keep readers coming back for more. I’m so looking foward to the fourth book coming in October 2024.

Thank you to Uclan Publishing for a copy of this brilliant book!
