Fyn Carter and the Agents of Eromlos is the exciting sci-fi debut by Ian Hunter. Readers age 9+ will be carried away into this multiverse adventure with 12-year-old Fyn and his confident, intelligent friend, Amy. With scientists for parents, this pair are used to big expeditions and logical explanations but when Fyn receives a strange, other-wordly message about the disappearance of his dad, he can’t help but get invovled.
Fyn’s dad has been missing for years. He and his mum have tried to move on but Fyn will never give up hope. Suddenly, secret agents, spies and windows between worlds takes Fyn and Amy on the quest of a lifetime. As the action intensifies, will they be able to keep themselves safe and find a way home again?
Lessons about being tough and finding inner strength weave through this story. Fyn and Amy realise they are always stronger together and no one can defeat their friendship in worlds where they don’t know who they can trust.
As the first stop on the blog tour, I’m pleased to share a guest post by author Ian Hunter:
The healthy escapism of children’s books by Ian Hunter
I love reading children’s books. I always have. I always will. There’s something about them that soothes my soul. I enjoy reading widely, but in the way of coming home on a wet and windy night to snug up on the sofa with a favourite blanket, I will always feel a sense of calm inside when I find the time to settle with a children’s book.
When I was a child, I would walk for a mile to get to my local library. Even though I knew the rules of being quiet in the library itself, I’d often meet a friend there, and we’d enjoy exploring the shelves and discovering what was on offer. There was something about the place but also the company. It was great to be surrounded by others like me – others who understood the joys of exploring different worlds. I knew some people in my life might have thought I was a bookworm or a geek, but I didn’t mind. I’d wear the badge proudly. I got to experience wonders. I’d walk home again afterwards and feel true excitement at the anticipation of getting stuck into whichever stories I’d borrowed. For me, books were an excellent form of escapism – they still are.
The truth is the world can feel like a heavy place. Grown-up books are also inherently more serious. I often don’t get to read until just before I go to bed, and I have very vivid dreams; the last thing I want in my unwind time is something serious, so at that time I will nearly always choose a children’s book. I believe many people forget that adult’s books are for adults, but children’s books are for everyone!
When I describe my debut novel, I say it’s aimed at children aged 9-12 and anyone above. Sometimes I’ll say for children, adults like me, and anyone in between. It’s the same thing. A book for children can be just as involved and complex as a book for adults, and sometimes more so. There is often an extra element of the fantastical to be found which may be forgotten in a grown-up book (I appreciate it can very much depend on genre). None of this is to say I don’t enjoy grown-up stories. I absolutely do! It’s just, to me, children’s books are a comfy place to explore emotions and get swept away. The challenges involved are a refreshing change of pace to the dramas of everyday living. They contain innocence, fun, and a purity I find to be lacking in the grown-up world – things I think we could do with a little more of.
As a writer, I want to create stories that people enjoy, but I also want to provide a place for escapism. I hope you enjoy ‘Fyn Carter and the Agents of Eromlos’, and I hope if you ever feel tempted to read a children’s book but wonder if it’s childish, you embrace your inner child. It might help you in more ways than you can imagine, and you might just connect with a little place inside that deserves more time to blossom.

Ian Hunter is a children’s author who lives on the south coast of England, UK, with his partner and their two cheeky cats (aka writing mascots).
He loves anything creative and can usually be found writing, planning an adventure holiday, or escaping to a fantasy world.
Fyn Carter and the Agents of Eromlos is Ian’s debut novel. He has many more stories to tell and is excited to share them with children and young-hearted adults like him everywhere.
