Twice Upon a Time by Michelle Harrison

Michelle Harrison has done it again with a gripping new fantasy mystery overflowing with sisterhood, magic and so many secrets.

Identical twin sisters Merry and Rose (known as Spike) travel with their mother to dusty, old Fox House. Their mother is there to restore art while the girls get to know the intriguing people who live there. Stories of a ghost on the stairs, a missing woman and an unknown baby lead them to question everything they’re told. What happened all those years ago?

What others don’t realise is that Merry and Spike have a very special power – they can pause time. Born either side of New Year’s Eve, they have an unusual relationship with time. Visions of the past and the future reveal clues no one else can see. When they team up with Ben, a boy who lives and works at Fox House, they uncover secrets no one wanted brought to light.

Twice Upon a Time is completely gripping from beginning to end. The contrasting personalities of Merry and Spike, a hidden room, the grusome possibility of a murder and the conflict of the Belmont family create an extrememly satisfying story that keeps readers asking questions and searching for answers.

It was an absolute privlege to listen to Michelle Harrison read from the opening chapters at the Simon and Schuster middle grade showcase last week. Her connection to these characters and the depth she has created in the mystery make it all the more powerful.

Thank you to Simon and Schuster for an early read of this brilliant book!
