Time Travellers: Adventure Calling takes readers on an engaging, time-travelling journey to discover the truth about the women’s suffrage movement in 1911. With fascinating information about Westminster and UK politics, it gives a thorough picture of our government and the responsibility we all have to hold it to account.
Suhana, Mia and Ayaan are on a school trip to the Houses of Parliament in London. Their headteacher, Mr Hayes, has very little respect for people who speak up for what they believe in – whether that’s Suhana or the people protesting “Fridays for Future” outside parliament. Fortunately, a teacher from another school corrects Mr Hayes and tells them all just how much change happened as a result of the suffragette movement.
As they’re exploring, Suhana’s phone lets off a strange SOS alarm and everything starts to spin. The clever trio suddenly finds themselves in 1911. Nothing is quite as it was except for the Houses of Parliament. They have until 5pm to find out the truth of the power of protest in the past and make it back to their own time without altering the success of these determined women.
During their time in the past, Suhana, Mia and Ayaan meet a number of significant Indian women who contributed to the suffrage movement – women who were never mentioned in the history books. They were ordinary women, not all princesses like Princess Sofia Duleep Singh. They are determined to recitfy this and make sure these heroes get the recognition they deserve.
Sufiya Ahmed’s aim is to reveal pages from history she never knew as a child and allow all children to see the impact of people who look like themselves.
