I Want a Dog by Jon Agee ~ Blog Tour

I Want a Dog is the charming story of a girl’s search for the perfect pet. She assumes the animal shelter will have just what she’s looking for – a loyal, loving, smart, cuddly, goofy, courageous dog. Unfortunately, it isn’t meant to be. She’s shown the most unusual collection of possible pets. None of them are dogs but maybe she can be convinced that another type of pet is better

The illustrations in this eccentric animal parade are brilliant! None of the potential pets look very impressed by the thought of being adopted – and even less impressed when they are rejected by the little girl. My absolute favourite is the lizard dressed up as a dog!

I love John Agee’s books because they remind me of the picture books I would choose from the library as a child in Canada – classic water colours with characters who demand to take centre stage and a story that makes you laugh with surprise and delight at each page turn. They are perfect to share at bedtime or for a fun class read aloud.
