Engineers Making a Difference gives young people a chance to meet real engineers working in hugely varied jobs and exciting careers. Profiles of world-changing men and women show that science and technology is accessible for all and challenge engineering stereotypes. Women in STEM are celebrated right alongside their male counterparts and are presented as inspirational role models for all.

Created in collaboration with Imperial College London, Engineers Making a Difference explores all the different types of engineering and the qualifications required to study and achieve highly. From which GCSE and A Levels to choose, right through to a Doctor of Engineering and Chartership, young people will see a clear career-path.

Krystina Pearson-Rampeearee, an Aerospace Engineer, is just one of forty-six engineers featured in this engaging book.

Engineers Making a Difference is perfect for every Key Stage Two class and school library. It is a must-have for secondary schools – in the library, with the careers lead and accessible for students to explore. Having time to read this book and discover more about the engineers featured is sure to inspire young people and show them that a career in Engineering is within reach.

Working in partnership with the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, Imperial College London will be sending two copies of this book free of charge to every state secondary school in the UK as a part of a school kit which also includes the Teacher’s Guide, 12 posters and a timeline. Dr Shini Somara is passionate about making science and technology accessible to all, through a variety of media platforms. She transforms cutting-edge science into heartwarming and captivating stories. Shini’s recent work includes shows for the BBC, Channel 4, UKTV and PBS Digital. She has worked together with brands such as Williams Racing, Google, Dyson and National Grid, The Institute of Engineering and Technology and The Royal Academy of Engineering.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATORS

Manuel Šumberac is a Croatian based illustrator and animator. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb where he was drawn towards the fascinating world of illustration. His work has been published and recognized in numerous book illustrations and book covers, such as Pinocchio, Snow White, The Night Before Christmas and Steampunk Frankenstein, amongst many others. Manuel creates his illustrations using digital techniques combined with traditional media.  

Adam Allsuch Boardman isan illustrator based in Leeds, UK who constructs imagery to inform and amuse in a clear and concise manner. His work contains limited palettes, clean geometric shapes and exacting lines and has featured in museum exhibit displays around the UK, such as the Science and Media Museum. Adam has authored and illustrated two non-fiction titles; An Illustrated History of Filmmaking and An Illustrated History of UFOs, the former now translated in over 6 languages.
