Maya’s pet rabbit Pooey is missing! She needs to find her quick, before anyone notices, and she’s got some very special help from Mind… but when things start to go wrong, can Maya and her Mind work together to save the day? From debut author-illustrator Sunita Chawdhary, filled with delightful artwork and packed with heart, this early reader is perfect for children aged 5 and up as they move into chapter books.
As my children have grown, I’ve loved listening to them chat to themselves when no one else is around. It might be reminding themselves of something they need to do, expressing frustration at something gone wrong, positive self-talk to get ready for a new experience or fully embracing imaginative play. One of my favourite examples is when my daughter, about age three, would walk around the house singing, “I am so fun! Yes, I am so fun!” She was right!
In Mind and Me, author Sunita Chawdhary brings this conversation to life. Maya is having trouble – her pet rabbit has gone missing. She needs to find her before her parents find out. She turns to Mind for help. Depicted as a seperate entity and character to Maya, Mind offers advice, causes distractions and gets into all sorts of mischief. Together, they explore all the options and come up with a plan.
This is a delightful book about mindfulness. It will help children to think about how they speak to themselves and how they can rely on themselves in times of difficulties. Funny and charming, it is perfect for reading aloud at bedtime or in class, giving adults and children opportunities to chat about emotions, how we talk to ourselves and how we listen to our own Minds too.
Thank you to Knights Of & Catherine Ward for an early copy of this brilliant book and for inviting me to take part in this blog tour!
