The Dragon with the Blazing Bottom by Beach

The Dragon with the Blazing Bottom is the laugh-out-loud tale of a dragon in trouble. He’s lost his spark and no matter how hard he tries, he can’t blast the knight with his fiery breath.

It turns out he hasn’t been eating the right foods so the knight comes up with the hottest, fieriest, fizzing and flashing recipe ever. It’s bound to do the trick!

The knight’s concoction definitely puts fire in the dragon’s belly but it doesn’t manifest itself in the way they expect.

Sir Wayne and Dragon are a fantastic duo. Beach has created magnetic personalities with their animated expressions, bright colours and huge actions. The contrast of tiny Sir Wayne and giant Dragon just adds to the hilarity of their unexpected friendship – despite Dragon trying fry the knight.  I’m so glad to see this book is the first in a new series as children are sure to be completely charmed by these two and want to see them in more adventures. This is one of those silly, fun stories that children will ask for again and again.

There is so much to see on every page. The clever words are given an extra layer of meaning with little details such as a burnt out pan, stinky green cheese and Dragon’s Big Book of Beasts. Young readers can follow Sir Wayne’s frustration page to page as everything they try fails. The addition of a very expressive bird side-kick adds to the humour as it tries to help (and stay out the way!)

The Dragon with the Blazing Bottom will be hugely popular in classrooms and at home. As a fun addition to a castle topic or purely reading for pleasure, this book will passed around, requested and shared over and over and over again.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster for this hilarious book!
